Get tax credits for your energy-efficient purchases

Why? Some energy-efficient products may cost a bit more than less efficient alternatives, but they often pay for themselves over time through lower annual energy costs. Purchasing an energy-efficient product could make you eligible for a federal tax credit. This means your investment will start paying back much more quickly!
How it works:
  • You can get a federal tax credit of 30% of the purchase price. For some products, there is a limit of $500, and for others, there is no limit.
  • The credit expires December 31, 2016 — be sure to make your purchases before then!
  • Find details on eligibility and learn how to apply for your credit on the ENERGY STAR® website.

What to look for:
Qualified renewable energy products eligible for a 30% tax credit with no upper limit:
  • Geothermal heat pumps
  • Small wind turbines
  • Solar energy systems, including photovoltaic panels and solar water heaters
